Preparing Children for
Confirmation & First EucharistThe Diocese of Portland Guidelines to Prepare Children for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist was approved and published in June 2015. The guidelines establish a two year preparation process for all children preparing to receive Penance, Confirmation and First Eucharist which includes the involvement of their parents/guardians. The minimum age for a child registering in Year 1 of the Sacramental Preparation program is 6 years old- entering the first grade. Of course, we will have age-appropriate catechesis for children who are in elementary school, middle school, and high school in both years of the sacramental preparation program as long as there are children/youth in these age groups.
Those who completed the first year of the Sacramental Preparation program in our cluster will automatically be reenrolled in Year Two. If you completed Year One in another parish, please attend the parent information night to enroll in Year One.
Our enrollment meeting is September 30 at 6PM at St. Bartholomew Church.
The Sacramental Preparation program is supplemental to your child's regular faith formation, whether that is received through your parish's faith formation or youth ministry program, or through your child's Catholic school. So, your child must be enrolled in either your parish's faith formation program or a Catholic school to enroll in Sacramental Prep. If you are not a Catholic School student, please register for Faith Formation prior to attending the parent information night.
