The Catechetical Programs of St. John the Evangelist and Holy Cross Parishes AClick Here for the Entire Faith Formation Schedule
Children and Young Adults (K thru 8) Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is offered at Holy Cross Church on Sundays during the 10AM liturgy and at St. John the Evangelist Church during the 8:30AM liturgy. CLOW is a wonderful way for children to hear the scriptures on an age appropriate level! Catechetics (Faith Formation) for Grades K thru 5 This program includes a Sunday morning or Tuesday evening session and is based on the spiral learning method. This method is what you would know as the “school” method where the main topics are the same and expanded upon each year. Our program is called “Faith First – Legacy” and is published by Resources for Christian Living. Faith Formation schedules can be found at: Middle School Youth Ministry (MSYM) is offered to students who are in grades 6 through 8. Formed in 2006, this new program meets on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 (twice per month) with added service projects and parish events. This program is designed to help teens put their faith into action. This group meets in our Teen Center located in the St. John Pastoral Center and the coordinator is Mrs. Aileen LaBrie. Family Catechetics ~ Building Households of Faith is offered once a month on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30PM at St. John’s Center. This is a participatory program where families can explore their faith together. This program is lectionary based so the sessions will be focused on the Readings and Gospel for the week ahead. The format will include activities that are engaging for the entire family. Second Grade Sacramental Preparation focuses on the reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist. It is a fun, engaging six-workshop process throughout the Liturgical Year which utilizes the expertise of our pastor, principal, faith formation director and lay ministers. These workshops take place once per month and the sessions rotate between St. John’s Pastoral Center and Holy Cross School. AClick Here for Faith Formation Registration Form
Adult Catechetics (Adult Faith Formation) We offer several opportunities for adult faith formation including Advent and Lenten retreats. This year we are excited to present 2 new programs: “Little Rock Scripture Study” and “Disciples in Mission.” Little Rock Scripture Study (LRSS) is a parish based program that provides a solid balance of knowledge, reflection and application of sacred scripture. Disciples in Mission (DIM) is a program centered on evangelization and mission that all churches in the Archdiocese of Portland will participate in over the next few years. It is a way to re-energize ourselves as Catholic Christians and bring about a greater enthusiasm for “Encountering the Living Christ!” AClick Here for the Adult Faith Formation opportunities in Cluster 22.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process whereby people enter into the Catholic faith and/or complete their full initiation into the church. Please check our schedule for meeting dates and times. Mrs. Paula Johnson is the program coordinator.
