A Committee has been established to plan for the implementation of the parish
reorganization that was
announced by
Bishop Richard Malone in 2004. The existing 135 parishes in Maine will be
reorganized into 27 clusters. Cluster 22 is made up of the 4 parishes and 5
churches in Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough and South Portland. The cluster will
have 2 priests assigned to it (a reduction of 1 from the current number).
The committee will review resources, staffing and finances of the cluster in
order to determine which of the following models will work best for our cluster:
• Model I - One pastor, merge parishes into one new parish, one
staff, finance council and Pastoral council, with multiple worship sites
• Model II - One pastor, separate parishes, one staff, one cluster
Pastoral council and finance Council
• Model III - One pastor, one staff, merge parishes and build new
larger church
• Model IV - Combination of models: Some parishes may merge, some may
remain separate, or a new larger church may be built.
The planning committee has until June 2006 to submit our recommendation and
justification to the Bishop for his approval. If you have comments or
suggestions for the committee, contact your pastor or one of the members
listed below. You will find links to various documents about the cluster
planning process and the committee's work below.
